Welcome to the pages of the regular news issue of the Charity Partnership «Helping Hands» DARE TO CARE! News. In this issue we present for your kind attention our regular newsletter with all information about monthly events which took place in October of 2014.

Program «Let’s have fun!» Excursion to «Sollers» auto-making plant

On October 3 Partnership «Helping hands» organized an excursion for teenagers from the rehabilitation center «Parus Nadezhdi» to «Sollers» auto making plant. Teenagers like visiting the plant where they have an opportunity to learn more about car-assembling lines. They enjoy looking at the process of assembling of new cars. Children are told which professions are the most required at the plant.

Boys admire production capacity and hi-tech machinery. Kids in a difficult life situation often have problems finding their path in life, and such excursions can help orient them in the world of professions and possibilities.

Program «Let’s have fun!» Excursion to Zarya plant

On October 3 Partnership «Helping hands» organized another excursion for 15 kids from the rehabilitation center «Parus Nadezhdi» to Zarya plant. The kids were toured around the plant and then they had a master class on how to make straw toys. Specialists from an art studio «More idei» helped our partnership organize this master class. They taught the children how to work with straw and the kids made nice colorful works. Partnership «Helping hands» finances the projects which bring fun and joy in the life of the kids in a difficult life situation. If your enterprise is ready to participate in any of our projects and you would like to invite kids for an excursion, please don’t hesitate to contact our partnership. We will organize a good event for the children together!

Program «Elder sister, elder brother»

Partnership “Helping Hands” supports a program of volunteers who visit kids in the orphanages and organize weekend programs for them. On September 27 and October 4 our volunteers visited children in Vladivostok orphanage №2. They told the kids about the ‘Architecture Day in Vladivostok’ and organized a contest for the best idea on how to beautify our city. The children had much fun drawing pictures. The volunteers also organized sport games and all together they had a nice time!

On October 5 another group of volunteers went to visit the orphans in the village of Pokrovka. Two children had their birthdays in the summer so the volunteers brought presents and organized a tea party for all the kids. The children had fun, played games and solved puzzles. Two children were adopted in the families during the summer and we are always glad that they will have a chance to enjoy a happy family life. The kids in the group are open and kind-hearted even though they are in a difficult life situation. We thank all our volunteers who sincerely care about these kids and find time to visit them in this remote orphanage! We also express gratitude to all those citizens of Vladivostok who donate clothes and toys for the orphans.

On October 18 and October 25 our volunteers visited children in Vladivostok orphanage №2. They played games in the open air, took pictures, showed funny magic tricks to the kids and had much fun! The volunteers told the kids about Halloween holiday and drew many pictures devoted to this holiday. The children liked drawing pumpkins on balloons! In the end the volunteers organized a dancing party and the children enjoyed it greatly!

Partnership “Helping Hands” is launching a new project “School of volunteers” where all those willing to share their love with orphans will get useful knowledge on how to start volunteering in the orphanages. We plan to organize for them special training sessions.

Program «Adaptation of orphans-graduates to independent life»

On October 2 we organized a meeting for the orphans who came to study in Vladivostok colleges. 8 girls came to the first seminar and meeting with the psychologist. The first part of the meeting was devoted to the discussion of their basic and most urgent needs. The girls talked about the beginning of their studies, about new relationships with groupmates and roommates. Our psychologist advised them on how to successfully develop relations and stay positive. Partnership “Helping Hands” provided the girls with stationery sets. We also helped them with autumn clothes and footwear. The second part of the meeting was devoted to a training seminar “How present yourself to people”. The girls were inspired after the seminar and shared that they felt real support from our partnership.

Partnership “Helping Hands” organizes this adaptation program for orphans because after graduation from orphanages few of them have correct vision of social behavior. For most of them it is really difficult to socialize with other teenagers and with teachers in colleges. It is vitally important to help them in this period of time providing necessary guidance and support.

On October 9 we organized the same meeting for the boys. They also shared their problems, talked about lack of money, food and clothes. The orphans-graduates are just in the beginning of their studies so they are not settled in student life yet. We are monitoring the situation with payments of their stipends and subsidies. We also provided the boys with stationery sets and clothes.

On October 18 we had another meeting with orphans- graduates. This time we organized an informal pizza party where they could socialize, share their plans about work and studies. Head of the project Yevgeny Chernyshev talked about the importance of balanced schedule of studies in college and part time work. Our psychologist gave recommendations on how to plan personal time. The teenagers ate pizza, drank tea, listened to professional curators, expressed their opinions and enjoyed the warm atmosphere of the pizza meeting!

Program «Let’s have fun!» Excursion to Arseniev museum

On October 20 Partnership «Helping hands» together with the rehabilitation center «Parus Nadezhdi» organized an excursion for kids to Arseniev museum. 15 kids arrived at the museum where they were met by the museum’s guide and volunteers of the city’s resource center. The children were toured around the museum where they could visit the exposition halls. The new exhibition was about the history of World War I and the kids learnt many interesting facts about it. As usual they had much fun while taking photos at the animals’ exhibition hall.

Program «English corner»

Starting from October we resumed the project for kids which is called "English corner". The project is carried out together with centralized Vladivostok library system and volunteers of "STEP" group. "STEP" students give free English classes for kids of Vladivostok. The first lesson was in Pushkin’s library on October 4 and the kids learnt greeting words and phrases. They also watched cartoons and played games.

On October 11 we organized two more lessons in city’s libraries. The children learnt colors, drew rainbows and funny pictures. They made simple sentences, sang alphabet song and had much fun. In the end they received sweets from volunteers as a compliment for good behavior and effort to study well.

On October 18 STEP students organized two more lessons for the children. The kids kept learning the English alphabet, tried to write their names in English. They played word games and drew pictures to remember new words.

On October 25 the children leant colors, communicated, learnt to make short sentences and played games.

Program «Moral values»

On October 29 Francis Landivar held 2 seminars in school № 13 in the frames of the project to develop right moral values in teenagers. The children learnt how to develop a positive personality. Positive thinking as a key to success became the main topic of the discussion. The teenagers were sincerely interested in the discussion and shared their thoughts about positive attitude and how it helps achieve good results in studies and personal life. The seminars and the discussions were held in English so the teenagers practice English while talking about important life issues.

On October 17 there was a billiard tournament for the disabled people in the city of Bolshoi Kamen. The regional organization for the disabled people “Kovcheg” organized the event and the partnership “Helping Hands” made a donation in the prize fund for the winners of the tournament. The goal of the tournament for invalid people is to help them socialize and integrate them into social life. 12 wheel-chaired disabled adults participated in the event and three of them became winners and received awards and prizes.

Program «Way to success»

A new series of educational seminars for the citizens of Vladivostok aims to provide useful lectures about ambitions as a way to achieve success in life. The project is carried out together with the centralized Vladivostok library system. The lectures are presented in English language and take place every second Wednesday.
